Couples therapy is intended to support couples as they navigate challenges or concerns that impact their relationship. Couples may choose to seek out couples therapy for a variety of reasons, and at different stages of the relationship. The goals of couples therapy are unique to each couple and their relationship. The intention for couples therapy may be to resolve existing concerns, learn new tools and strategies, change unhealthy patterns of behaviour, improve communication, strengthen the physical and emotional connection between partners, etc.
Sometimes couples also attend therapy to provide support and guidance as they navigate a breakup or separation. Even if both partners agree that the relationship is over, a couples therapist can aide in mediation and communication to ensure both parties feel safe, respected and heard. This is also a great option when children are involved so that parents can get support to help them minimize the impact it has on the children.
We offer a variety of therapeutic interventions and modalities geared toward couples therapy including traditional talk based therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy (Level I & II), and more.
This service is available for all couples, regardless of the length of the relationship, sexual orientation or gender identity. Aspen Wellness Centre team members are proud allies of our LGBTQTIA2S+ community.
Couples therapy is available in person at our Southeast Edmonton location, or via telehealth (video) for clients located within Alberta.
