Samantha MacIntosh

Clinical Intern - BA MACP (IP)

Samantha (Sam) is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. Sam joins our team with a wealth of prior experience in community mental health where she has provided support services to children, youth, adults and families at CASA, and the Terra Centre.

Do you struggle with trauma, anxiety, depression, stress or other concerns that are affecting your relationships, work and daily life? Do you stuck, frustrated or overwhelmed by the challenges of daily life, relationships or patterns of behaviour that no longer serve you, yet unsure what to do about it? If you're ready to take the first step toward improving your mental health, I am here to help. In our work together, we will focus on making sense of your thoughts and feelings, including how past experiences may be affecting your current life. My approach is trauma informed and client centred, and I strive to create a safe space so clients feel safe, understood and respected as we work together toward their goals.

Samantha provides mental health therapy for individual children (10+), youth, adults, seniors, and couples.

Samantha is honoured to be an ally of the BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIAP, and Indigenous communities.

 Samantha's pronouns are she/her/hers.

Samantha's offers mental health therapy sessions in-person and via telehealth.

Sessions are offered at a reduced rate of $20-65/session based on a “pay what you can” model while completing her Clinical Internship under the supervision of Heather Andrew, MSW RCSW and Dr. Chandra Ashton.

If you require sliding scale fees, please set up a free 15 minute phone consultation.

Experience

Before pursuing her masters degree in Counselling Psychology, Sam accumulated a lot of front line experience supporting children, youth, families and adults who were accessing services through non-profit organizations including CASA Mental Health, Catholic Social Services, Yellowhead Youth Centre, and through her internship at the Terra Centre where she supported teen parents and their children. Sam is known for being down to earth, relatable and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure her clients feel supported.

Sam has significant background experience working with high-risk children and youth, and clients with complex needs including grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, complex family dynamics and relationship concerns. Sam excels as a trauma informed therapist, meeting clients where they are at regardless of what brings them in. Drawing from her training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Sand Tray therapy, and various other modalities such as CBT, mindfulness and solution focused therapy, Sam tailors each session based on the client's needs. She believes in creating a safe, non-judgemental space where clients can feel respected and understood as they share their story. Using a strength based approach, she helps clients build on their existing strengths and resiliency as they process their experience, learn new skills and work toward their therapeutic goals.

Starting therapy can feel daunting. It's ok if you aren't sure where to begin. In our first session, we will begin to explore this together at a pace that feels comfortable for you. It is my goal to guide you through this process so you feel supported and empowered every step of the way.

About

In her free time, Samantha enjoys listening to music, cuddles with her dog, and spending time socializing with friends and family. Sam loves trying new food and drinks, so you'll likely see her enjoying new restaurants in and around Edmonton.

Natalie is fantastic! She listens to what I need and has great pressure for deep tissue in those stubborn spots. She keeps the conversation light and takes her cues from me when I’m needing the quiet.
